Tadelakt
Tadelakt is a waterproof lime render/plaster which is used to form seamless wall, surface and floor coverings, both in bathrooms and as a decorative wall finish throughout the home or work space. Tadelakt is an ecological and environmentally friendly product, made of natural materials and coloured with purely natural pigments resulting in a wall covering that is free from chemicals.
Ancient Tadelakt
Tadelakt appears to be have first been used during the Middle Ages, where the Berbers of North Africa used it to create cisterns to store water. Clearly once its waterproof qualities were recognised and with the abundance of the mineral-rich lime within the Marrakech area, Tadelakt became a useful construction material. It is probably most well known and appreciated in the hammams and spas in Morocco, where it creates a durable, waterproof barrier, which due to its high Ph value is also resistant to mould.
Contemporary Tadelakt
Couleurs Tadelakt has worked with a range of technicians and interior designers to manufacture its own Tadelakt. We only work with our extensively researched and tested Tadelakt, ensuring a high quality finish of uniform texture and colour.
Finishes
While Tadelakt lends itself traditionally to being used in interiors with a classical Moroccan theme, it is also equally at home in any contemporary residential or commercial environment, complementing the clean lines of modern design.
We offer two unique Couleurs Tadelakt finishes
- A waterproof Tadelakt finish that is meticulously polished by hand using a specialist stone and finally sealed with black soap ensuring an impermeable surface. This is applied to a waterproof substrate which is suitable for use in bathrooms and wet rooms and makes a contemporary alternative to tiles.
- A less polished Tadelakt finish which is more cost effective in situations where a highly polished, waterproof finish is not required. This offers all the beauty of Tadelakt, but creates a more matt finish, eminently suitable for living and working spaces.
Tadelakt can also be used in the construction of contemporary furniture, shelving, work and floor surfaces both in an interior and exterior setting. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
